Welcome to Pinspiration Friday, here is what I tried from Pinterest this week and my reviews.
First was a homemade teeth whitening concoction.
It consisted of mixing a little bit of mouthwash with some hydrogen peroxide. I swished for 30seconds three times in a row with this and then brushed my teeth with a mixture of tooth paste and baking soda with just enough water added to make a paste. I did this once a day for six days in a row and this is the result:
A little underwhelming, not much change really. The baking soda isn't the best tasting but if it had made a real difference I could easily have sucked it up. As it is, I think the people raving about this and saying it's like they have new teeth.....wrong.
The next thing I tried was making homemade ice cream with the kiddies. This was a big hit, so easy and so much fun.
For this project you will need:
1/2c of half and half (apparently milk works too)
1Tbsp of granulated sugar
1tsp of vanilla extract
1 large and 1 small ziploc bag
ice
salt
(and two excited little kids)
Mix together milk, sugar and vanilla extract in the small bag. Put ice cubes and a good bit of salt in the large bag and then place the small bag inside the large bag.
Set your timer for 5 minutes and start shaking!
Pass it around so everyone gets a chance to shake.
The shaking was the fun part, lots of laughs which turned to shrieking as the timer got close to the end.
Enjoy the finished product. :)
It only makes a half cup so perfect for a few bites each for two little kids.
We will definitely be doing the ice cream project over and over again, it was a big hit.
And my final Pinterest inspired project for the week? Shaving with baby oil. It apparently leaves your legs baby soft and is better for the razor blade.
I actually think this worked quite well. It definitely left me with very soft and smooth legs. The only drawbacks...it did clog the blade up and it had to really be rinsed every couple of strokes and it does make the bottom of the tub/shower stall a bit slippery. Other than that it does a nice job. Much cheaper than shaving cream/gel too as a little goes a long way.
Hope you enjoyed the reviews, would love to hear how your Pinterest inspired projects have turned out.
You can follow me on Pinterest here.
Have a great weekend!
Hair conditoner works too, in place of the baby oil
ReplyDeleteI've used it in a pinch! It actually doesn't clog up the razor quite as much either.
DeleteLove conditioner, too! I have curly hair and am always trying new products, so when they don't work, they become shaving cream fodder. :)
Deletethank you for your reviews... I will definitely try the baby oil!!! :)))
DeleteYes, I use conditioner as well. Suave is only $1 and works way better than shaving cream.
DeleteConditioner does not work so well on armpits, just be aware!!
DeleteDo u have to use baby oil ger or can it be any baby oil?
DeleteI always use Babyoil+shampoo+conditioner in 1:1:1 ratio :D
DeleteIce cream project looks like a lot of fun!! (:
ReplyDeletei love that you actually try pins! I don't know how many times i've seen an interesting looking pin and thought "i wonder if that actually works..." Thanks for being our guinea pig!

Thanks for stopping by! Pinspiration Friday is a regular weekly occurrence so feel free to stop by regularly and check it out. :)
Deleteit says to use baby oil, but did you use the baby oil gel or just baby oil?
ReplyDeleteI used baby oil gel here, but I have used baby oil as well and I like the baby oil better....it's much thinner and doesn't clog the blade up so much.
DeleteI did the baby oil shave and got terrible razor burn!!! It did not work for me!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh no! I wonder if your blade was dull? The only time I ever get razor burn is if my razor blade is dull. :(
DeleteI did too! It was a brand new razor....it hurt so bad :( chalk this one up to skin sensitivity/skin type.
DeleteHorrific razor burn. Worst of my life!
DeleteYou could always try coconut oil that might be more mild on the skin. No fragrence.....
DeleteI clogs my razor as well. Def use it after your shower as it suggests. Makes your legs really soft.
DeleteConditioner works better. Cheap too!
DeleteLove your idea for pinspiraration Friday. Thats so fun. I loved rwad your reviews and seeing what projects you tried. I'm addicted to pinterest.
ReplyDeleteI also use coconut oil for shaving. I use coconut oil for everything!! (i even blogged about it haha) I love it. I've never tried baby oil, but ill do it now. Thanks!

I love Pinterest too, and with Pinspiration Fridays it pushes me to try out the fun things I find and to see what really works and what doesn't. :)
DeleteCoconut oil is great for shaving, and also great to put in your hair to keep it moisturized. It smells good too.
DeleteI enjoyed reading your reviews of the different things you have tried throughout the week. I think it helps having and also inspires me to tryout more things myself and having the reviews you have given me feel like I won't waste my time with certain ideas. Really enjoyed and plan to revisit your site often.
ReplyDeleteHi Laura,
DeleteThank you so much for stopping by, so glad you enjoyed your visit. :)

I'm a hygienist......go to your hygienist and have her/him polish your teeth. Your routine in this review gives me the concern. The baking soda is TOO abrasive over a prolonged period of time, the alcohol in the rinse pictured can also cause issues with your oral mucosa; the best thing in the pic is the hydrogen peroxide. I do recommend my clients use this a couple/few times a week to maintain, MAINTAIN the polish they just got. Dilute 50/50 with water. You seem to have INTRINSIC stain, home remedies will not give you great results. It is easier to maintain after a professional cleaning or whitening.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like actually helpful advice.
DeleteI worked in Orthodontics and totally agree with the Hygienist.
DeleteAbsolutely love the baby oil gel products by Johnson and Johnson, but I find that it clogs my razor big time and dulls it fast when it's used as a shave gel. I recommend using the oil gel immediately after the shower, just a small dab the size of your baby finger nail on damp legs before toweling yourself off. I keep mine right in the shower. The result? VERY soft legs without the greasy feel!
ReplyDeleteI found it was clogging my razor too but haven't had the same problem when I use oil rather than the gel. I love how soft it makes my skin! :)
DeleteCan you use the baby oil shaving for other parts of the body other then the legs?
ReplyDeleteI don't see why not. :)
DeleteYes. I do. I use baby oil all over after washing to get soft skin everywhere.
DeleteI also use conditioner for my private areas. The shaving cream/gel doesn't work as well down there. So I am sure that baby oil would work as well.
DeleteI am so excited to find someone else who blogs about things they have tried on Pinterest! Pinterest has become so clogged up with "miracle ideas" that don't even actually work - it's up to people like us to set the record straight! I am now your avid follower, you can check out my own blog if you like for some more Pinterest reviews at http://gelasrainebows.blogspot.com/
ReplyDelete~*~Gela~*~
Thanks Gela! I'll check you out! :)
DeleteVitamin E skin oil works too and its only a dollar don't use a lot though, just tried it today amazing! it doubles as a make up remover too
DeleteI actually use Johnson's Baby Head and Body wash to shave my legs. I don't get razor burn with it like I do with shaving cream. I might have to try the baby oil and see how that feels.
ReplyDeleteThe baby oil worked soooo well for me :) thanks for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure! :)
Delete@shaving with baby gel, I started doing this back in '94 when I was in college. Actually we would heat up water and baby oil and put it in a spray bottel. And... we sat on the vanity and shave. We didn't do it in the tub/shower stall due to the slippery outcome. But yes, this is the perfect thing when you are on a budget. I like the coco butter baby gel they have now.
ReplyDeleteKudos.
I have been going between baby oil and hair conditioner since this post and both work really well. :)
DeleteI use Bath & Body Works Shower Gel for shaving. My legs don't get dry & they smell good.
ReplyDeleteI love using hair conditioner to shave as well. It gives you a close shave and leaves your legs feeling and looking moisturized with fewer nicks.
ReplyDeleteI've never actually used shaving cream for my legs, I was told to use soap by my mum from the time I was 12 then I started using baby oil on my own and yes it works great!
ReplyDeleteWhere are the rest of your trials located?
ReplyDeleteThey are on this blog, you can use the search feature on the right hand side and just enter Pinspiration Friday to find others. :)
DeleteI whitened my teeth by wetting a cotton ball with peroxide and rubbing my teeth for 30 seconds on top and 30 seconds on the bottom. Brush your teeth afterward. You can probably do this till teeth are as white as you like then once a week to maintain. Keep in mind dentists use much stronger methods to whiten your teeth and charge you an arm and a leg .
ReplyDeleteDid you find it made much of a difference Dawn?
DeleteReally enjoyed. Reading your posts
DeleteAnother shaving cream solution I use is 1 cup shampoo, 1 cup conditioner, 5 tbsp lotion, and 5 tbsp baby oil. It works really good, doesn't clog razor and doesn't leave the bathtub slippery.
ReplyDeleteI just try baby oil gel & & I Absolutely love it!
ReplyDeleteBaby oil a.k.a. mineral oil is made from petroleum
ReplyDeleteWhy would you take Motor oil and rub it all over your body thinking that you're making a healthier why do women think that
it causes cancer ladies knock it off
Stop putting it on your babies also cancer Motor oil

I tried both of those and I did get slight burn with the baby oil too.
ReplyDeleteCoconut oil though? It was a dream to use!
Small amount warmed in the hands and rubbed over your legs worked wonders for me, and my skin is looking better than ever too (2 1/2 wks using)
Maybe try it after a warm bath will help with less burn though? Opening the follicles more means less drag and pull on the hairs maybe?
